Public service · Lake Como, New Jersey

My Record of Public Service

I served on the Lake Como Borough Council in 2007. During that time, I worked on public information, schools, recycling, roads, water systems, and local finances. Here are some of the responsibilities I held and the decisions I helped make.

MY COUNCIL RECORD

Local work. Public decisions.

01WEB

Making local government easier to reach

I worked on improvements to the Borough website, including public alerts, calendars, and access to local information. I also introduced Ordinance 2007-799, which set rules for advertising on the tourism website and allowed free directory listings for licensed local businesses. The Council adopted it unanimously in August 2007.

02RECYCLING

Recycling and environmental reporting

I served as Borough Recycling Coordinator. I reported recycling figures to the Council, including a 2007 tonnage filing covering 1,740.18 tons. Mayor Ryan thanked me for this work. The records do not establish a specific state payment or savings amount.

03EDUCATION

Education and schools

I was appointed Council liaison to the Lake Como Board of Education in January 2007. I reported school-related updates during Council meetings.

04ROADS

Roads and drainage

I brought forward Resolution 2007-84, which authorized engineering services for proposed work on 20th Avenue, New Bedford Road, and 17th Avenue. I also voted for separate legislation funding road and drainage improvements.

05WATER

Water systems and fire hydrants

I supported Ordinance 2007-795, which authorized $35,000 for fire hydrants and water-main repairs. Basil Wolfe introduced the measure. I seconded its introduction and later seconded the motion for final adoption.

06BUDGET

Budget and local finances

I offered Resolution 2007-72 concerning the preliminary municipal tax levy and presented a budget status report. I also took part in votes on budget transfers and other municipal financial matters.

07CIVIL

Marriage and civil union procedures

I participated in final-adoption proceedings for Ordinance 2007-794, which set local fees and procedures for marriage and civil union ceremonies performed by the mayor. New Jersey had already established civil unions under state law; this ordinance did not create that right.

08LICENSING

Local business and licensing

I took part in Council decisions involving alcoholic beverage licenses, beer-keg registration, and outside dining fees. These were local licensing and regulatory matters, not all ordinances I introduced.

09COMMUNITY

Community connections

I helped publicize a community blood drive through the Borough website. I also seconded a resolution concerning Lake Como’s sister-city relationship with Como, Italy and a motion on a local nonprofit raffle license. These were shared Council decisions, not programs I organized alone.
